Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon’s sister, Shalonda Mixon, has pleaded not guilty to charges of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice in connection to a shooting that occurred at the NFL star’s home earlier this month. Mixon turned herself in to authorities on Thursday and was booked into Hamilton County Jail, with her bond set at $5,000.

Prosecutors allege that Shalonda Mixon’s boyfriend, Lamonte Brewer, shot at a teenager who was playing with a toy Nerf gun near the football player’s backyard, striking him once in the foot. Shalonda Mixon then allegedly tried to cover up the shooting by scooping up shell casings and fleeing the scene with Brewer in a car. If convicted, Shalonda Mixon could face up to four years behind bars.

Brewer has also been charged in connection with the shooting and was indicted for felony assault on Thursday, facing up to 20 years behind bars if convicted. Joe Mixon himself is not facing any charges, with prosecutors stating that he did not commit a crime.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, revealed that the NFL star and his family had been receiving death threats in recent weeks and had been fearful for their safety. The shooting incident has only added to their worries.

The case is ongoing, and it will be up to the legal system to determine the facts and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
