Joe Biden, who was born on November 20, 1942, in the blue-collar community of Scranton in northeast Pennsylvania.

His father, Joseph Biden Sr, cleaned furnaces and sold used cars. Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan was his mother.

In Scranton, Biden attended St. Paul’s Elementary School.

Biden battled with stammering as a child, and children mocked him by nicknaming him “Dash” and “Joe Impedimenta.”

He corrected his speech problem through the memorization of large portions of literature and delivering them openly in front of a mirror.

Biden however completed law school and has risen through the ranks in American politics to become the 47th President.

“Welcome to the White House, Commander,” 79-year-old Biden wrote on Twitter, accompanied by a photo of the dog dashing over the lawn with a tennis ball in its mouth. The president also released a video in which he welcomed the new pet (“hey, pal”).
