The late Jody Kelly died at the age of 85 on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, and was widely recognized as the Amazing Race. Her death occurred while in Bemidji, Minnesota, where she was attending a Spanish language immersion camp. In 2010, at the age of 71, she participated in The Amazing Race in Season 16 and teamed up with her granddaughter Shannon Foster. The two contestants made it to the second elimination round.
Jody Kelly is a native of Austin, Texas, and was born on January 21, 1938, in Opelika, Alabama. She attended Gainesville High School and completed it in 1955, she then furthered her studies at the University of Florida for one year and transferred to Stetson College in DeLand, Florida. She graduated from Stetson in May 1959 with a B.A. in Arts and Letters. She earned a Master’s degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1967, and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Duke University in 1974.
