Joan Hotchkis was an American actor, playwright, and performance artist who worked in theater, film, and television. She was born on September 21st, 1927 in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in San Marino.

Hotchkis who is a lifelong member of the Actors Studio and the Dramatists Guild is most known for co-authoring the groundbreaking acting guidebook “No Acting Please” alongside Eric Morris.

She is also known for starring as Dr. Nancy Cunningham on The Odd Couple for several seasons.

The veteran actress and playwright is said to have suffered congestive heart failure which ultimately took her life at the old age of 95.

Hotchkis had earlier been diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor just a short while after her role in Legacy.

Although the tumor was successfully removed through surgery giving her many more productive years, she decided to quit television and focus on stage and theatre roles.
