Jiyai Shin, a South Korean professional golfer who plays mostly on the LPGA of Japan Tour and was once ranked No. 1 in the world, was born in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, on April 28, 1988.

Shin won the SK Enclean Invitational in 2005, making her the only amateur to win a KLPGA event that season while still a high school student. She turned professional at the end of the 2005 campaign.

Jiyai played on the LPGA Tour for the first part of his playing career and then the LPGA of Korea Tour (KLPGA). She broke previous KLPGA records in 2007 by winning ten events in 19 starts on the KLPGA Tour.

In 2008, she competed in just ten LPGA Tour events for non-members, but she won three titles, including the Women’s British Open and the ADT Championship.

She has been ranked number one in the Women’s World Golf Rankings for 25 weeks, making her the first Asian to hold that position. With 64 wins on six tours, she is the greatest Korean golfer of all time, male or female. Shin has endorsement deals with Three Bond Holdings, Ecco, M.U. Sports, and Jatco.
