Jimmie Ward is a 31-year-old American football free safety for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on Thursday, July 18, 1991.
Ward, who was born in Racine, Wisconsin, attended Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama. As a senior, he led the Warriors in tackles with 101, 73 of which were solo, as Davidson went 10-3 and advanced to the state quarterfinals, earning team Defensive MVP honors.
Ward studied at Northern Illinois University between 2010 and 2013 where he won for himself a number of awards. He started all 14 games as a true freshman in 2010 and blocked a school-record three punts. He also had 21 tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass break up, and was named Special Teams Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year for the Huskies.
In 2011, he played in all 14 games, starting 12. After compiling a career-high 100 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception, four pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick, he was named third-team All-MAC.
He led the Huskies with 104 tackles in 2012, including a career-high 14 in the Orange Bowl against Florida State. He also had three interceptions while starting 13 games and was named to the MAC’s first team.
In 2013, he led the Huskies in tackles (95), interceptions (7), and pass deflections (12), and was named an Associated Press third-team All-American. He was also named first-team All-MAC for the second year in a row.
