Jesse Clegg parents: Johnny Clegg, Jenny Clegg
Jesse was born in 1988, on June 14 to his parents Johnny Clegg and Jenny Clegg, in Johanessburg, South Africa.
Johnny and his wife Jenny got married and had two children. Jenny was Jonny’s second wife. The two lived together as husband and wife till Jonny’s death in 2019.
Jesse took after his father, as Johnny (Jesse’s father) was also a South African musician, singer-songwriter, dancer, anthropologist, and anti-apartheid activist.
Johnny was born on June 7, 1953, in Bacup Lancashire, England. Johnny had a secular Jewish upbringing as his mother’s family were Jewish immigrants from Lithuania. He learnt about the Ten Commandments but refused to have a bar mitzvah or even associate with other Jewish children at school.
Johnny had a band called Juluka which began as a duo with Sipho Mchunu. It was the first group in the South African apartheid era with a white man and a black man. The pair performed and recorded, later with an expanded lineup.
Jesse’s father Johnny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015. He had battled with it throughout the years, however, it lead to his death in 2019.
