126307721 jerryThe venue bosses have cancelled an appearance by controversial comedian Jerry Sadowitz at the Edinburgh Festival.

On Friday and Saturday, the comic and magician was scheduled to perform at The Pleasance at Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The Pleasance announced that the second night would be cancelled because his material “does not align with our values.”

Sadowitz is a 61-year-old American-born Scot, who is known for his brash stand-up routines.

“Did a show last night, 75 minutes, thought it went well,” he tweeted. There were no walkouts. He again added to his tweets “Today I’m told my show’s been cancelled. Great stuff. I’m truly sorry for everyone who travelled to see the show tonight.”

The original listing for the venue stated, “This show contains strong language and themes that some may find distressing.”

However, the Pleasance Theatre Trust announced on Saturday that the second performance had been cancelled “with immediate effect.”

“Opinions such as those displayed on stage by Sadowitz are not acceptable, and The Pleasance are not prepared to be associated with such material,” it said in a statement.
