Jennifer Lynn Wexto is a lawyer and politician from Washington, US, born on May 27, 1968. She now serves as the United States Representative for Virginia’s 10th congressional district. Her father and mother were both top economists at the US Treasury and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, respectively.
Wexton earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland, College Park. She subsequently attended the College of William & Mary Law School, where she earned a Juris Doctorate in 1995. She was a member of the legal honor society Phi Delta Phi at William & Mary.
Wexton announced her candidacy for the special election to fill the seat after Mark Herring, who had served the 33rd district in the Virginia Senate, won the 2013 election for attorney general of Virginia. Northeastern Loudoun County and northwesterly Fairfax County are included in the district.
Wexton decided to abstain on February 9th, 2023 in a vote to oppose the District of Columbia City Council’s decision to pass the Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 in November 2022. The District of Columbia’s criminal code was revised and amended thanks to this act. Disputed reductions in the worst penalties for robbery, carjacking, and burglary were also included.
