James David Catto, a British musician, video director, photographer, and script editor, was born in London, England, on August 14, 1968. Before quitting Faithless to create 1 Giant Leap in 1999, he was a founding member of that band.
Catto attended Arnold House School in St. John’s Wood, London, where she received her education. She joined Faithless as a founding member and served as the band’s creative director, video director, and one of its two vocalists, together with Maxi Jazz. Sunday 8 PM was his final studio album with Faithless.
After leaving Faithless, Catto formed 1 Giant Leap with Duncan Bridgeman. Released their first album in 2002 and sold around 300,000 copies. Worked with such figures as Dennis Hopper, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Stipe, Bono, Susan Sarandon, k.d. lang, Tom Robbins, Dido, Brian Eno, and Tim Robbins.
1 Giant Leap won the Grand Jury Best Documentary at the Red Rock Film Festival in 2008. The documentary features Tim Robbins, Daniel Lanois, k.d. lang, Susan Sarandon, Bob Geldof, Noam Chomsky, Billy Connolly, Marianne Williamson, and Deepak Chopra.
In 2011, Catto began teaching creative workshops such as ‘bring your dream project into the world’. His most recent film Becoming Nobody was a tribute to spiritual teacher Ram Dass. He is currently in development on his new film Adam and Eve – Healing the Primary Wound of the Planet.
