James Robert Flynn, FRSNZ, was a New Zealand intelligence analyst who was born in the United States and died on December 11, 2020.
Flynn, who was born in Washington, D.C., and who received his education at the University of Chicago, immigrated to Dunedin in 1963 and began working as a political studies instructor at the University of Otago. He gained notoriety for his writings on the Flynn effect, now known as the persistent annual rise in IQ scores throughout the globe. Along with his scholarly activity, he spent his whole life promoting social democratic politics.
