James Caan died Friday, July 1, 2022
had a 55-year career that encompassed classics like Howard Hawks’ El Dorado, Michael Mann’s Thief, Rob Reiner’s Misery, Jon Favreau’s Elf, and, of course, Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, The Godfather.
Caan has worked with film icons such as John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Billy Dee Williams, Robert Duvall, Simone Signoret, Katherine Ross, and others almost from his debut.
Following The Godfather, he went on to work with Barbra Streisand, Michael Caine, Jane Fonda, Elliott Gould, Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Nicolas Cage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joaquin Phoenix, and many others.

His meteoric career began in 1969, when he appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Rain People, alongside future Godfather costar Robert Duvall.
The following year, he co-starred with Billy Dee Williams in the television adaptation of Brian’s Song, for which he received his first Emmy nomination.
The picture was such a smash sensation that Columbia Pictures rereleased it in cinemas.
