James Altucher is an American hedge fund manager, author, podcaster, and entrepreneur who was born on January 22, 1968. He has founded or cofounded more than 20 businesses. He has written 20 books and contributes to TechCrunch, The Huffington Post, The Financial Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

Altucher was born in North Brunswick, New Jersey, and graduated from North Brunswick Township High School in 1986. In 1989, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Cornell University, and his first job after graduation was in the HBO IT department. Altucher was the host of the HBO series III: am.

Altucher left HBO in 1998, sold the company he had started, Reset Inc., for about $15 million, and used the money to make new investments in the internet. According to Altucher, he started this period with $15 million and lost it all in two years, forcing him to rethink how he approached life and business. During this time, Jim Cramer of TheStreet.com recruited him to expound on stocks, and Altucher started exchanging for multifaceted investments.
