Jacob William Rees-Mogg (born May 24, 1969) is a British politician who has served as the Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy since September 6, 2022.
He previously served in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet as Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency in 2022, and as Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council from 2019 to 2022.

He went on to work with Lloyd George Management in the City of London and Hong Kong until 2007 when he co-founded the hedge fund management firm Somerset Capital Management LLP.
He earned a sizable wealth, valued in 2016 at between £55 million and £150 million, including his wife’s projected inheritance. Before being elected as the MP for North East Somerset in 2010, Rees-Mogg ran unsuccessfully in the 1997 and 2001 parliamentary elections. He was re-elected in 2015 and 2017, each time with a larger proportion of the vote, as well as in 2018.
Since 2010, he has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Somerset.
Rees-Mogg, a Conservative Party member, has been connected with socially conservative ideas.
