According to Metro, an Italian model and football player was given a life sentence in prison for stalking and beating his ex-girlfriend to death with a hammer.

Giovanni Padovani, a 28-year-old former Sancataldese central defender, was given a life sentence on Monday for the 2022 murder of his ex-girlfriend Alessandra Matteuzzi.

When Ms. Matteuzzi, 56, reported that the football player had been stalking her outside her Bologna home in August 2022, the player beat her with a hammer, baseball bat, and bench.

As Ms. Matteuzzi was being attacked by Padovani, her sister Stefania, who was with her on the phone, heard her cries for assistance.

”She stepped out of her car and started shouting, ”No Giovanni, no, I implore you, help, I was on the phone,” Ms. Stefania told a local TV station. I contacted the (police) right away, and they showed up immediately.

Ms. Matteuzzi originally escaped the attack, but while in the hospital, she passed away from serious injuries.

Notably, after receiving instructions from his squad to skip a training session, the football player traveled to Bologna, northern Italy, and waited outside her home. He’d been texting and calling her nonstop after their separation, and he’d even tried to scale her balcony.

“She was very afraid of him because he had become persistent and she didn’t want to let him in the house,” a neighbor remarked.
