Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed his readiness to serve as the running mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December general elections in Ghana.

In an interview with Onua TV, the 38-year-old football legend shared that it would be an honor for him to be considered for the position and that he would not turn down the opportunity if it were presented to him.

Gyan, who represented Ghana in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups, highlighted the importance of the role of the Vice President, recognizing its significance in the governance of the country.

“Everyone likes to be honored. I wouldn’t say no to the offer, but I understand that it’s a big responsibility,” said the former Sunderland striker.

Currently, Gyan serves as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of the Vice President’s Manifesto Committee, demonstrating his dedication to contributing to the development of strategic sports policies that aim to improve Ghana’s sports sector under the potential presidency of Dr. Bawumia.

It is worth noting that Gyan holds the title of Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup, further bolstering his qualifications beyond his accomplishments on the football field.
