The 2024 Inter-School Reading Quiz ended in an exhilarating battle between two basic schools, with Theorose School emerging victorious over Golden Angels School.
The competition, which spanned four weeks, culminated in a nail-biting final round where Theorose School clinched the top spot by a mere half-point margin.
Both schools started off strong, with a tie at 24 points each after the first round. However, Theorose School pulled ahead in the second round, accumulating 48 points compared to Golden Angels School’s 42 points. The all-boys team made a comeback in the final round, known as the ‘Genius Round,’ but fell short by 0.5 points, with Theorose School ultimately securing the win with 60 points.
The winning team, represented by Grace Appiah, Gloria Appiah, and Ewurabena Koranteng Asante, received a cash prize of GH₵ 3,000.00, a gold trophy, and a 2-week, all-expense paid educational trip to Canada worth GH₵ 150,000.00, among other products from sponsors. Golden Angels School claimed the silver trophy along with a cash prize of GH₵ 2,000.00 and goodies from sponsors.
Prospect International School and Startrite Schools took third and fourth place, earning GH₵ 1,000.00 each and additional prizes from sponsors. All four schools also secured a scholarship to participate in the National Spelling Bee Championship, valued at GH₵ 7,000.00.
The event, held at the Legon Interdenominational Church auditorium, was graced by notable personalities such as actor Adjetey Anang and the CEO of Perbi Cubs, Anyele Perbi. The Inter-School Reading Quiz, a collaboration between Perbi Cubs and UNESCO’s Accra World Book Capital, aims to enhance literacy skills among twenty thousand basic school pupils nationwide.
Sponsored by the Mohinani Group and supported by brands like KFC and Polytank, the competition was extensively covered by Joy Prime as the official media partner. It was indeed a celebration of knowledge and achievement, showcasing the talent and dedication of young students in the realm of reading and comprehension.
