Ms. Islay has been recognized several times for her services to education in the Cayman Islands since her resignation as Chief Education Officer in 1982.

During National Heroes Day, the Caymanian government presented her with the Spirit of Excellence Award, and she was the inaugural recipient of the Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Education. Conolly was appointed to the Order of the British Empire in 1981.

Ms. Conolly, who is originally from Cayman Brac, began her career in 1947 as the headmistress of Creek Primary School. Prior to her employment, she was the Principal of East End Primary School.

Notable efforts in this job were the establishment of a community college and public education for hearing-impaired kids.

Ms. Islay was also a member of the Public Service Commission, which was in charge of recruiting government officials.
