Syms was born in London on January 6, 1934. She was one of the hundreds of kids who were evacuated from London in 1940 when she was five years old, first to Kent and then to Monmouthshire. She gained notoriety in the 1950s with Ice Cold in Alex and received Bafta Award nominations for Woman in a Dressing Gown and No Trees on the Street.

Later, she had guest appearances on TV dramas like Peak Practice and EastEnders. In 1991, ITV’s Thatcher: The Final Days featured her as the former prime minister.

She costarred with Dame Helen Mirren as the Queen Mother in The Queen in 2006.

Later, she recalled the anguish of being separated from her mother, who passed away at the age of 12 due to a brain tumor.

“She led a fantastic life and made us smile and laugh right up until the very end. We only now recalled all of our joint escapades. She will be sorely missed.
