American politician James Michael Johnson was born on January 30, 1972, and has served as the 56th and current US House of Representatives speaker since October 2023. Representing Louisiana’s 4th congressional district in the US House of Representatives since 2017, Johnson is a Republican serving his fourth term in office.
Johnson is a Paul M. Hebert Law Center alumnus of Louisiana State University. He practised law in private practice and for Alliance Defending Freedom prior to entering politics. In addition, he established the nonprofit legal ministry Freedom Guard, whose mission is to defend Christian clients in court. Johnson served as a representative in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017.
