A fresh trouble for a fresh start is the case for Twitter’s newest CEO, Parag Agrawal, as he is being labelled as a racist over a decade-long tweet.

In 2010, Parag sent out a tweet that has been tagged as racist.

Immediately he was announced Jack Dorsey’s replacement as the CEO of Twitter, some unscrupulous users on the micro-blogging site starting digging into his old tweets. And they came out with one that is related to racism.

“If they are not gonna make a distinction between muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists,” Parag Agrawal tweeted on October 26, 2010.

After the tweet, he later clarified that the tweet actually belonged to comedian Aasif Mandvi who made this statement on The Daily Show.

“@Joylita I was quoting Asif Mandvi from The Daily Show. The article you are reading seems too deep for my current mental state,” he replied a tweep.

Is Parag Agrawal a racist?

The straightforward answer is NO! Parag Agrawal isn’t a racist.

A CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski cleared the air that the tweet was a ‘joke about absurd stereotypes.’

“This tweet which is currently going viral among the right from Twitter’s new CEO is him quoting a Daily Show segment that aired that night about stereotypes. It’s a joke about absurd stereotypes, not a factual statement,” he tweeted.

Jack Dorsey announced in a statement that he had stepped down as the CEO of the Company on Monday, November 29.

He made this decision after realising that ‘it’s critical a company can stand on its own and free of its founder’s influence or direction’.

Jack named Parag Agrawal his replacement. The Indian-American tech genius and the company’s chief technology officer is taking over as CEO effective November 29, 2020.

“The board ran a rigorous process considering all options and unanimously appointed Parag,” Jack said in his statement. “He’s been my choice for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs. Parag has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around.”

“He’s curious, probing, rational, creative, demanding, self-aware, and humble. He leads with heart and soul, and is someone I learn from daily. My trust in him as our CEO is bone deep,” his statement added.
