Martin Faranan McDonagh born March 26, 1970, is a British-Irish screenwriter, producer, and director. He was born and raised in London, the son of Irish parents.
He is well-known for his absurdist black humor, which frequently questions the modern theatre aesthetic. He has garnered numerous honors, including an Academy Award, four BAFTA Awards, three Laurence Olivier Awards, and five Tony Award nominations.
McDonagh was in a relationship with actress and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge as of 2018. He eats only vegetables. McDonagh now lives in East London.
McDonagh is a dual citizen of Ireland and the United Kingdom. His first six plays (including The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Cripple of Inishmaan) are set in or around County Galway, where he spent a large portion of his boyhood.
