Despite backing her confirmation as an appeals court judge last year, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham indicated Thursday that he will not vote for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, citing reservations about her record.
After criticizing Jackson during her four-day hearings last week, the South Carolina senator’s announcement was expected.
However, Democrats will lose one Republican vote in their quest for bipartisan support for President Joe Biden’s nominee to succeed retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.
The only three Republicans who voted to confirm Jackson to the appeals court in 2021 were Graham, Maine Senator Susan Collins, and Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski.
Is Lindsey Graham a racist?
Lindsey Graham has a reputation for not being racist. He has merely stated that he will not support Ketanji Jackson’s appointment.
Does Lindsey Graham hate Ketanji Brown Jackson?
It’s unclear whether his refusal to support Ketanji is motivated by hatred.
Graham’s objection, however, will not derail Jackson’s candidacy in a Senate that is evenly divided, since she is on pace to be confirmed with full Democratic support and Collins’ vote.
