Joe Strummer (born John Graham Mellor on August 21, 1952 in London, England) was a British singer, musician, and composer.
He was a founding member, lyricist, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of the punk music band the Clash, which was formed in 1976.
Strummer took £100 (equivalent to £1,100 in 2021[18]) in 1975 to marry South African citizen Pamela Moolman in order for her to get British citizenship (prior to the British Nationality Act 1981).
He spent the money on his iconic Fender Telecaster guitar. He began dating Gaby Salter shortly after her 17th birthday in 1978. The pair was together for 14 years and had two daughters, Jazz, and Lola, but they never married since Strummer was unable to find and divorce Moolman.
He had several affairs during his relationship with Salter. He began an affair with Lucinda Tait in 1993, which ruined his relationship with Salter. From 1995 till his death in 2002, he was married to Tait.
Is Joe Strummer Turkish?
Yes, Joe is Turkish by birth. Joe Strummer was raised in a middle-class family.
John Graham Mellor, the son of a British diplomat, was born in Turkey in 1952 and changed his name to Joe Strummer in his twenties as a sarcastic reference to his self-taught guitar approach.
