Jennifer Lynn Lopez was reared in the Bronx’s Castle Hill district after being born there on July 24, 1969.

Her parents, David López and Guadalupe Rodriguez, were raised on the American mainland despite the fact that they were both born in Puerto Rico.

After leaving the military, David worked as a computer specialist for Guardian Insurance Company.

Guadalupe raised Lopez at home for the first 10 years of his life before moving on to work as a Tupperware salesperson, a kindergarten teacher, and a gym instructor.

In the 1990s, after 33 years of marriage, they divorced.

The middle child, Lopez has two sisters: the younger Lynda and the older Leslie.

Together, they shared a bedroom. Her upbringing, in Lopez’s words, was “strict.”

She obtained a Catholic education at Holy Family School and the all-girls Preston High School while growing up in a Roman Catholic family, attending Mass every Sunday.

At school, Lopez competed in gymnastics, played softball, and ran track on a national level.

She participated in school musicals as a dancer and held the title role in a Godspell production.
