After being relieved of his role as the captain of Europe’s Ryder Cup team, Henrik Stenson has joined the LIV Golf series.
Is Henrik Stenson joining LIV Golf?
The 46-year-old Swede was fired from Ryder Cup Europe on Wednesday morning and later issued a statement announcing his participation in the contentious Saudi-sponsored breakaway tournament.
Even though he expressed disapproval of the decision to fire him as captain, he acknowledged that “for now it is a decision I accept.”
In March, Stenson, the Open champion from 2016, was named captain.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, LIV Golf announced that Stenson and fellow Americans Jason Kokrak and Charles Howell III had joined the tour.
The LIV Golf Invitational Bedminster, the third competition in the series, will take place from July 29 to July 31 at the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey.
Several PGA Tour players who competed in the first two LIV Golf events have been suspended.
