Greg Norman, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, on Wednesday revealed a brand-new Saudi-sponsored, team-based professional golf league.
Is Greg Norman World Golf Hall of Famer?
Norman, a former World No. 1 golfer and 20-time PGA Tour champion, is a well-known representative of the nascent LIV Golf Invitational series, which will hold its inaugural invitational contests this summer.
The project, which has the support of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, promises to hold eight tournaments from June through October and pay $250 million in total prize money.
The project has been the subject of rumors for a while, but they gained attention in February after six-time major golf champion Phil Mickelson apologized for remarks he made about the project while claiming they were off the record.
Since the scandal, Mickelson has lost a number of endorsements and announced he will take a break from golf.
Some of the best professional golfers in the world, including Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau, have reaffirmed their dedication to the PGA Tour.
When was Greg Norman inducted into World Golf Hall of Fame?
He was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. He won the Vardon Trophy three times—in 1989, 1990, and 1994—for the lowest scoring average on the PGA Tour.
