American lawyer and politician serving as the 43rd mayor of Miami, Florida. Francis Xavier Suarez was first elected in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021.
He is a registered Republican, but the office of the Miami mayor is nonpartisan. He previously served as City of Miami Commissioner for District 4, a position he held since he was elected in a runoff election on November 17, 2009.

Xavier Suarez is the father of Francis Suarez, Xavier is a two-time Miami mayor. In 1998, a Florida circuit court removed Suarez’s father, Xavier Suarez, from Miami’s mayoral office. The court found that Joe Carollo’s lawsuit alleging voter fraud in the first round of the mayoral election had merit.
During the lawsuit, the younger Suarez was a 20-year-old sophomore at FIU. Carollo’s lawyers confronted Suarez with witness signatures for invalid absentee ballots. The signatory “F. Suarez” did not reside at any of the addresses given. Suarez denied any involvement with witnessing absentee ballots.
