Deborah Ann Harry, best known as the main singer of the band Blondie, is a famous American singer, songwriter, and actor. Deborah Ann Harry was born Angela Trimble on July 1, 1945. Between 1979 and 1981, four of her songs with the band peaked at No. 1 on the US charts.
She was adopted by Catherine and Richard Harry, owners of a gift shop in Hawthorne, New Jersey, at the age of three months, and given the new name Deborah Ann Harry.
At age four, Harry learned of her adoption. Even though she first decided against looking for her birth parents, she eventually did and in the late 1980s managed to track down her biological mother, a concert pianist, who opted not to get close to Harry.
In her memoir, she describes herself as a tomboy who spent a lot of her childhood exploring the nearby woods.
Harry graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1963. In 1965, she earned an Associate of Arts from Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey. She relocated to New York City in the late 1960s and spent a year there working as a secretary at BBC Radio before starting her singing career.
Later, she worked as a playboy bunny, a go-go dancer, and a waitress at Max’s Kansas City, and Union City, New Jersey, respectively.
