Brandy is a distilled beverage made from wine. Brandy is frequently consumed as an after-dinner digestif and normally includes 35-60% alcohol by volume (70-120 US proof).

All around the winemaking globe, there are several types of wine brandy. The most well-known include the southwestern French gins of Cognac and Armagnac.

In a more general sense, the name “brandy” also refers to alcoholic beverages made by distilling pomace (which results in pomace brandy), as well as any other fruit’s mash or wine (fruit brandy).

These goods are also referred to as eau de vie (which translates to “water of life”).
