Irving Abella, the Canadian historian, has passed away at the age of 82.

Irving Abella on July 2, 1940, in Toronto, Ontario, was a cousin of University of Chicago Professor of Physics, Issac Abella.

He went to attend the University of Toronto where he received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Throughout his career, he has written many books, including Coat of Many Colours: Two Centuries of Jewish Life in Canada and None Is Too Many: Canada and the Jews of Europe, 1933–1948.

In addition to this, he was a professor at York University, a previous president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, and also served as chair of religious broadcaster Vision TV.

Abella was married to Rosalie Silberman Abella, with whom he had two sons named Jacob and Zachary. His sons are both lawyers who have children.

He died on July 3, 2022, after a battle with a long illness, just one day after his 82nd birthday.
