Inna Churikova, one of the most celebrated and prolific actresses of the Soviet Union and Russia, died on Saturday at the age of 79. The cause of death was reported to be heart failure, although she had been in poor health for several months.

In 1984 she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival for the leading role as Vera in ‘Voenno-polevoy roman’, by director Petr Todorovsky. Churikova was designated Peoples Artist of the USSR (1991) and People’s Artist of Russia.

Her husband is Gleb Panfilov with whom she had one son. Her husband and son keeps a low profile. They keep their private life away from the media eye.

Together with her husband and son, Churikova was a co-screenwriter for the historical feature Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya semya (The Romanovs: An Imperial Family) (2000), in which rather than appear on screen, she dubs the English actress Lynda Bellingham starring as the tsarina Aleksandra Fyodorovna.
