Indiana University (IU) has recently paid tribute to former Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Kwesi Yankah, during the launch of IU’s sixth global office in Accra.

The event, a private reception, gathered educationists and high-profile personalities to commemorate the establishment of IU’s office and acknowledge Professor Yankah’s contributions to the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Expressing his joy at the honour bestowed upon him by IU, Professor Yankah stated, “I am overwhelmed by this honour, but also a little sad that it took a university from outside Ghana, from outside Africa to come and do these honours. That’s all I can say at the moment, but I am so happy that at least somebody recognized the modest role that we have been playing in scholarship, within Ghana here, in Africa and beyond Africa. I’m so happy.”

The Interim Vice President for International Affairs of Indiana University, Hilda E. Kahn, encouraged the youth to emulate the accomplishments of Professor Yankah by transcending their boundaries. She advised students to dream big, step out of their comfort zones, think globally, and cultivate a sense of responsibility that is both local and global.

The ceremony not only celebrated the launch of IU’s global office in Accra but also highlighted the achievements of Professor Kwesi Yankah and the importance of academic scholarship in Ghana and beyond. It served as a reminder for students and educationists to aspire for excellence and make an impact on a global scale.
