“Incompetent” Bawumia is the worst person to lead Ghana – NDC

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has come under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which claims he lacks the ability and vision to reverse the nation’s fortunes.

The opposition claims that the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, is superior to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer because the NPP flagbearer lacks the vision that distinguishes a true leader.

These remarks were made by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Wednesday during a press conference in Accra. In his laudatory remarks, he mentioned how Mr. Mahama’s visionary leadership was influenced by the teachings of Professor Atta Mills, Jerry John Rawlings, and Kwame Nkrumah.

Mr. Kwetey emphasized Mahama’s accomplishments, citing his partnership with Professor Mills in the establishment of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, a game-changer for the nation’s energy sector.

In addition, he mentioned Mahama’s investments in health facilities, citing the importance of the UGMC, Ridge Hospital, Ga East Municipal Hospital, and Shai Osudoku Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Kwetey gave Mahama credit for creating the stabilization fund, which was essential during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and was part of the oil revenue funds. He attacked the Bawumia-led economic team for not setting aside money to pay down the nation’s debt starting in 2025, even though they had access to resources worth over 800 billion Cedis over a period of almost eight years.

Mr. Kwetey cited the building of more than 900 km of rural fiber optic backbone, which connects 120 communities from Ho to Bawku, as an example of Mahama’s visionary leadership. Bawumia was also chastised by him for his boastful remarks about digitalization, failing to acknowledge the substantial investments made by NDC in 4G LTE, the National Data Center, the Accra Digital Center, and other electronic applications.

Concerned about the government’s lack of action to boost Ghana’s power generation capacity, Mr. Kwetey praised Mahama for his visionary leadership in establishing the ESLA Fund, Ghana Exim Bank, and using balance sheets to finance significant expansion.

He blamed Dr. Bawumia for supervising careless borrowing, which left Ghana unable to settle its debt.
