Williams was raised by Ghanaian parents in the Basque region of Spain. In 2016, he made his full international debut for Spain.

However, he said in July 2022 that he had made the decision to play for Ghana at the international level, and in September he received his first invitation for friendly against Brazil and Nicaragua.

He was named in the final squad list and subsequently chosen for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. He took part in every game as Ghana was eliminated after the group round.

Williams has had a respectable campaign for Bilbao in the Spanish Primera La Liga, scoring five goals and dishing out two assists in 24 appearances.
