The Elubo Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) detained a 32-year-old Ivorian cab driver accused of fleeing to Ghana to avoid punishment for the alleged death of his girlfriend in Côte d’Ivoire.
The fugitive, known as Nduoba Essoi Fulgence, was apprehended on April 2, 2024, in Edwakpole, a community near Anyinase in the Ellembele District of the Western Region.
According to sources, Fulgence is suspected of severely slicing the throat of his lover, Nda Abekan Anne or Ella, before fleeing to Ghana.
Inspector Moses Manford Akakpo, Western Regional Public Affairs Officer of the GIS, said that the arrest was made based on information provided by authorities on the Ivorian side of the Elubo Border and the Ivorian Police Commissaire.
Initial investigations showed that Fulgence would seek asylum with family in Edwakpole hamlet, around 50 km from Elubo.
A surveillance team comprised of Immigration Officers from the Elubo Sector Command, commanded by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Joshua Krakue, was dispatched to locate the suspect.
“After about two hours of intensive operation, the suspect was identified and arrested in a house believed to be his family house at Edwakpole village,” the statement went on to say.
On Tuesday, about 4 p.m., the GIS turned over Fulgence to the Ivorian Police Commissaire in Noe, near the Elubo Border, to assist further legal processes.
The GIS extended gratitude to everyone involved in the concerted effort to capture the culprit.
