Before the Boston Celtics signed Udoka to serve as their first head coach in June 2021, he served as an assistant coach for nine seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets. In the NBA, the Celtics were defeated by Golden State.

Udoka came back to the country and was picked up by the NBDL once more. In the 2005 NBDL Draft, the Fort Worth Flyers selected him third overall this time. With the Flyers, he scored 17.1 points and grabbed 6.2 rebounds each game. Udoka was acquired by the New York Knicks on April 6, 2006. On September 11, 2006, the Knicks released Udoka.
