Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, the immediate past Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has expressed his satisfaction with the progress made at the Trust during his seven-year tenure. In a farewell meeting with staff on Monday, April 15, Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang expressed pride in the achievements made with his team since 2017.
Looking back on the transformation of SSNIT, Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang highlighted the shift towards a service-centred organization that can effectively meet the needs of stakeholders. He praised the introduction of new service delivery touchpoints such as the Pensioner’s Priority Desk, DG-direct WhatsApp line, and an enhanced web portal.
One of the key successes highlighted by Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang was the merger of SSNIT and Ghana Card numbers, with over 2.3 million members merging their numbers. This move has streamlined identification for all SSNIT transactions and eliminated the need for biometric cards, reducing costs and enhancing security.
Additionally, SSNIT implemented quarterly electronic statements of account distribution, streamlined payment platforms, and introduced new payment options such as SSNITPAY and mobile money wallets. These initiatives have significantly improved customer satisfaction, with internal surveys showing an increase from 69.7% in 2017 to 82.9% in 2022.
As Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang bids farewell to SSNIT, he urged staff to offer their full support to the newly appointed Director-General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo Maafo. The transition comes after President Akufo-Addo terminated Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang’s appointment and appointed Osafo Maafo in his place, with Juliana Kpedekpo taking over as the new Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits.
