“I’m a hairdresser not a military recruit” – Woman in viral recruitment photos

Hairdresser Lydia Wiafe, 41, of Ejisu Apromase, in the Ashanti Region, has voiced worry and anxiety following the viral social media photographs of her dressed in military uniform.

Lydia Wiafe maintains she has never served in the Ghanaian Armed Forces and angrily rejects any involvement with the images.

Because of her age and her purported membership in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the extensively circulated photos provoked indignation.

She informed Ashanti Regional Correspondent Hafiz Tijani of Citi News that the event had severely damaged her mental health and interfered with her ability to support herself.

She urged the police and military to assist in identifying the individual or people who created the photographs.

“I believe this individual took photos of me and shared them during one of our political events or rallies. Numerous individuals, including family members, have been contacting me, and because of this heinous deed, I am unable to work and make a livelihood.

“Finding and exposing the person responsible for the production and dissemination of these images is imperative. Given that I could unintentionally be attacked, this could have a detrimental effect on my life.

“I live in constant fear that the military may pursue me. This is blatantly dishonest information against me.

“The Ghana Armed Forces’ reputation has been tarnished by the person responsible for this heinous deed. To make sure this individual is held accountable, I shall make a formal plea to the military authority.

“Many calls have been made to me, and I think that if this person is apprehended and punished, the situation will be resolved and my name may rest as well. Living and working in this community is comfortable for me. This is something that worries my kids as well.”

Justice is being demanded by her neighbors in the Ashanti Region, Ejisu Apromase, who have also confirmed her account.
