Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has responded to allegations that the illegal mining issue persisted under his watch. Refuting claims that he did not fulfill his duties as chair of the committee on illegal mining, he explained that there was a misunderstanding of his role.
During an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng clarified that his responsibility was to bring attention to the issue and inform the leadership. He highlighted his accomplishment of alerting the president about the Forest Commission giving out forest reserves for mining purposes.
The former minister emphasized that he delivered significant results, which led to legal action against him for defamation. Despite criticisms, he maintained that he did not fail in his role.
Responding to concerns about ongoing pollution in rivers, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng drew a parallel with individuals returning to crime after serving sentences. He argued that if perpetrators continue illegal activities after being arrested, his performance should not be questioned.
