Illegal miners in the Ashanti region have been caught digging beneath newly laid gas pipelines in search of gold, raising concerns about the safety and integrity of the infrastructure.

Nana Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI, the Board Chairman of Genser Energy, spoke out about the dangerous activities, warning of the potential explosive risks.

In an interview with reporters, Nana Osae Nyampong emphasized the need for immediate action to address the issue. He called on local Chiefs to educate their communities on the dangers of illegal mining near the gas pipelines, stressing the importance of prioritizing safety above all else.

The Chairman expressed concern for the lives of the miners involved in these activities, as well as the overall security of the gas pipeline project. He highlighted the potentially catastrophic consequences of mining near flammable gas, urging residents to avoid risking their lives for uncertain wealth.

In other news, Genser Energy, a Ghanaian-owned independent power producer, has expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the successful construction of a 110-kilometre natural gas pipeline in the region. The pipeline will provide power to the 250-megawatt Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP) and future plants, marking a significant development in Ghana’s power sector.

Constructed with imported steel pipes from the US, the Anwomaso Gas Pipeline project aims to supply the plant with natural gas sourced from the Western Region. The collaborative efforts between the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Genser Energy Ghana Limited have been instrumental in the completion of this critical infrastructure, which is expected to enhance the country’s power sector and support regional industries.
