President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has once again shown his dedication to improving the cocoa industry in Ghana, with a particular focus on the well-being of cocoa farmers.

At the grand opening of the permanent office of the Cote d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative in Accra, the President emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of those who play a crucial role in the cocoa supply chain.

During his speech, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the achievements of his government, including the implementation of the highest cocoa producer price in Ghana’s history. He also mentioned the significant meeting that took place in 2019 between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, where they discussed and adopted a living income differential for cocoa producers in both countries. This initiative involves providing cocoa farmers with an additional payment of $400 per ton on top of the world market price for every cocoa sold by the two nations, starting from the 2020/2021 season.

The President pointed out that the current international cocoa market trends support the actions taken by Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. He noted that what seemed impossible just two years ago is now becoming a reality. However, President Akufo-Addo also acknowledged the challenges that have arisen with the recent peak in market prices and stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries to address these issues and develop effective strategies to navigate the evolving market dynamics.

In conclusion, President Akufo-Addo’s affirmations at the opening of the Cote d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative office reflect his ongoing commitment to enhancing the cocoa industry in Ghana and ensuring the well-being of cocoa farmers. The collaborative efforts between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are essential for overcoming the challenges faced by the cocoa sector and sustaining its growth and development in the future.
