Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over the potential negative impact of armed robbery on his proposal to implement a 24-hour economy.

To address this issue, he has pledged to create a joint Military-Police anti-armed robbery team to combat the prevalence of robberies in the country.

Furthermore, Mahama has also proposed the establishment of military barracks in all six of the newly formed regions in Ghana. These regions include the North East, Savannah, Oti, Western North, Ahafo, and Bono East regions. The purpose of these barracks is to ensure a presence of the Ghana Armed Forces in each of the regions.

During a meeting with the Chiefs and residents of Gambaga in the North East region, Mahama emphasized the importance of security and safety in enabling the successful implementation of the 24-hour economic policy.

He stated, “We are going to form joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads and one of those squads will be here in the North East to fight armed robbery because we want you to have peace and security to be able to go about your duties.”
