The former forward was first observed by the Clarets while he was a County Durham schoolboy for Pelton. 1954 saw him go to Turf Moor, and two years later, at the age of seventeen, he received a pro contract.
He made a spectacular debut on the scene less than a year later. In the FA Cup, Burnley defeated Chesterfield 7-0 thanks to FOUR goals from Lawson. Lawson scored fifteen goals in thirty Burnley games before moving for £20,000 to Leeds in 1962.
