Ghanaian rapper, Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as Guru NKZ, recently shared his struggles with depression during the year 2020. In an interview with Felicia Osei on Adwuma Adwuma on Onua FM, Guru revealed how what was initially meant to be a two-week holiday in the US turned into a five-month stay due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Trapped in the US during the height of the pandemic, Guru found it challenging to return to Ghana as planned. When he finally made it back, he realized that a lot had changed, and his career had taken a nosedive. The rapper recounted the difficulty of rebuilding his energy and team upon his return, especially after the disappointment following the release of his song ‘Mep3 bad energy.’
However, Guru managed to overcome his despair by channeling his emotions into music. He expressed, “In my sad moments, I use music to relieve myself. I released a song with Fameye which was all about me. I was trying to express something and making it more comical but it’s music, I just have to balance it.”
Currently pursuing a degree in Political Science and Information Studies at the University of Ghana, Guru has announced his intention to run for SRC President. He aims to bring positive change to the university, including the establishment of Legon TV and the addition of more buses on campus.
Through his music and aspirations for leadership, Guru continues to inspire others with his resilience and determination to overcome challenges.
