Bongo Ideas, a serial social media troll, has spoken out about a recent episode of alleged kidnapping and torture.
Bongo Ideas was arrested a few weeks ago and attributed to state security officials, but the police and national security issued independent statements denying he was in their possession.
Days later, he was reportedly brought home in poor condition.
In his first interview since his release, he told German network DW Africa about his trauma, which he said was at the hands of people “claiming to be police officers.”
He stated that he had been threatened at gunpoint and advised against insulting the president.
“On March 14, 2024, around 3 a.m., some men masquerading as cops entered my room.
“On March 14, 2024, at around 3 a.m., some individuals posing as police officers entered my room and pulled me out. I was threatened with death, pistols aimed at my head, and I was told to say my final prayer.
“They beat me up and all and they warned me never to speak about the president,” he told the news outlet DW News.
On social media, he divided views about the brutality he was experiencing, with the vast majority claiming that he had called such attacks on himself.
Others who voiced in his support advocated for democratic mechanisms to deal with his excesses rather than utilizing unknown agents to frighten a citizen.
