In an exclusive interview that aired on Daybreak Hitz at Hitz FM, Ghanaian rap legend Kwaw Kese, real name Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, recently gave a moving story of his early hardships and resolve to follow his musical goals.

The musician known as “Awoyoo Sofo” remembers the difficult times he had to walk long distances, notably from Ashaiman to North Kaneshie, in order to record recordings.

When Kwaw Kese looked back on the early years that molded his own personality, he revealed that his unusual stage name originated from the strenuous foot travels he did.

“I used to walk from Ashaiman to North Kaneshie to Hush Hush Studios. At that time, I realised my life then and that of a madman was the same. I was building the brand, and I was like a mad man. I built myself around that, and people easily bought into it,” he disclosed.

The rapper opened up about the difficulties he encountered and the stigma attached to people in that age who had dreadlocks.

“People didn’t want to associate with you back then if you had dreadlocks, but now they understand and know it’s a brand,” he continues.

Kwaw Kese stressed that his perseverance and unique brand identity eventually brought him fame and gained him respect in the music industry, even in the face of opposition.
