Shasha Marley, a Ghanaian artist, has revealed how he turned down a $50,000 offer from a political party in Ghana this year.
He stated that if he accepted the offer, he would be asked to produce a campaign song for the political party.
In his narrative, he stated that an old acquaintance called to notify him of a huge possibility, which kept him awake all night till the next day, when he met with the individual to negotiate the offer.
“You will be startled and stunned to learn that this year [2024], I turned down a $50,000 offer from a political party to record a reggae song for them…
“I received a call from an old acquaintance who is not a politician and said he had a significant deal for me. I couldn’t sleep that night. The next day, we met and he explained to me…,” Shasha told Abeiku Santana on UTV’s Atuu show, which was monitored by GhanaWeb.
Shasha Marley revealed that when he notified his wife about the agreement, she opposed, forcing him to refuse the offer.
“When I returned home and briefed my wife, she advised me against it due to the politics involved, and eventually I agreed and rejected the offer.”
During election seasons, political parties frequently hire artists to create campaign songs designed to persuade the people.
Diana Asamoah and Daddy Lumba are among the musicians that have created political songs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Jewel Ackah did the same for the National Democratic Congress.
