Ghanaian artist Gyakie has said that her current album, ‘December,’ was inspired by a sad occurrence in her life.

She disclosed this on TV3’s New Day broadcast on April 10, 2024. She revealed that she wrote her song after experiencing ‘disappointment’ from someone close to her.

“It’s a song I created during one of my melancholy times… Every line in the song is straight; I’m not simply crafting lyrics. “Someone disappointed me—a special someone,” she explained.

Gyakie boldly revealed the severe consequences of her loss, including thoughts of suicide.

“I even got to the point where there’s that (suicidal thoughts),” she said.

She claimed that she dealt with her anguish by taking a break to contemplate and start over in both her personal life and music.

“I felt I needed to start again in terms of my sound. I felt disconnected from reality as well. So, from the start of the year, I used that time to discover myself,” she explained.

Gyakie rose to attention in 2019 with her smash track “Forever,” which showcased her distinct combination of R&B and afro-fusion.
