Former Chairman of Government Assurances Committee and former legislator for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, has raised suspicions about the motives of North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, regarding the sale of four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Amankwah believes that Ablakwa may be acting on behalf of competitors who failed to secure the 60% share of the hotels, particularly Rock City Hotels, owned by Bryan Acheampong. Acheampong has faced backlash for being in line to take over the majority share of the hotels.
In an interview with Akoma FM’s William Evans-Nkum, Amankwah stated, “I suspect Okudzeto Ablakwa is doing the bidding of the other competitors who failed to win the 60% bid. They are bitter and may be behind Okudzeto.”
Despite criticisms of potential conflict of interest in the sale, SSNIT has defended the decision, citing Rock City’s compliance with all necessary requirements. Amankwah also dismissed concerns of conflict of interest, questioning the legality of preventing politically exposed individuals like Acheampong from investing in public properties.
Amankwah further argued that Ablakwa’s campaign against the sale could deter local investors from contributing to the country’s economy. He emphasized the importance of encouraging local investment and entrepreneurship for Ghana’s development.
